Hi,

I want to develop Applications based on Flash Lite 3.0 Device APIs using Action Script 2.0 for Nokia S60 5th Edition Platform.

Please let me know the appropriate and supporting downloadable links and other necessary tools/utilities/configurable features as a part of Development Environment.

Which Emulator do I need to use in order to link it to the actual Target Phone Handset ?

What are the available Nokia S60 5th Edition Platform handsets that supports Flash Lite 3.0 Device APIs using Action Script 2.0 ?

I appreciate your patience and efforts. Looking forward to hear from you,

Thanks

You just need Abode Flash CS3/CS4 and a AS Library of platform services i.e S60_ActionScript_API_library_1_0.zip

You can test flash lite contents on Device Central (an emulator provided with the Adobe Flash CS3/4) .But to test platform services u cant use Device Central , u have to use RDA or real device.

For available 5th edition phones , always keep an eye on this link :

For more details, search this dibo , we already discussed alot of beginner related issues here .

As a ending note,
Flash Lite ( till now does not support AS 3), so you all Flash Lite 3.0 codes are AS 2 based.
For a list of FL 3 compatible phones, you can get it from Adobe Device Central 4, by displaying by 'Flash Lite version' option.

Thanks Sajid for your response. Well, I did check the Device Specifications for the supportable Nokia Handset phones featuring Flash Lite 3.0 Device APIs running ActionScript 2.0. There are few models such as Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia 5230 and Nokia X6 which supports Flash Lite 3.0 technology.

Does this mean, all these models makes use of ActionScript 2.0 ?

I am planning to buy any one of these models and develop applications for it, based on Adobe Flash CS4 / Device Central platform Environment. Is my approach in right direction ?

Kindly comment. Thanks

Hello Manikantan, Thanks for your response. Noted this point.
I downloaded Adobe flash CS4 on a trial version basis (888 MB in file size approx). When I chose to run, it shows error pointing to download again !!

Please let me know the dedicated link to download it successfully. Thanks

Yes! these phones including Nokia 5800 XM support flash lite 3.0 with PLATFORM SERVICES API. But if we talk about only flash lite 3.0 (without PLATFORM SERVICES API) then it is supported in S60 3rd Edition FP1/FP2 phones too like Nokia N95, N78 etc.

Every phone having Flash Lite 3.0/3.1 can make use of AS 2.0. AS 3.0 is not supported in any version of Flash Lite yet.

If u r planning to make a Flash Lite Content with Platform Services then Yes! ur approach is right. I am playing (programming) with Nokia 5800 XM from a month and it is quite fun for the developers to program apps/games on this phones .

Sajid, Thanks again for your quick response. As per the RDA guidelines, after downloading Java application, there is no mention of "connect" to start the device chosen for running Flash Lite 3.0 Device APIs remotely. (I have chosen Nokia 5230 in my case).

I appreciate if you could provide step-by-step method to make use of RDA so that I could understand the overall development flow and API construction, thereby testing the services.

I could also see "Device Anywhere" method as one of the last method to test devices remotely in internet. Have you gone through this one ? Thanks for your comments in advance.

If u r able to run Nokia 5320 using RDA then u just need to copy ur swf files to the phone using file transfer and then running the swf files from the file manager of the phone.Thats it.All the platform services are automatically initiated if these are defined and called in ur swf file.
Device Anwhere is not free, so, i didnt test it yet .

Sajid,

Finally, I got Adobe CS4 downloaded and able to run sample HelloWorld program, obtaining .swf format successfully under FlashLite 3.0/AS.20 script environment. I want to deploy this .swf file onto RDA. But I am not able to find any menu, mentioning about file transfer as such etc.

Further, I am trying to use this http://library.forum.nokia.com/index...A9466BB68.html library onto my Adobe Flash CS4 Environment, but failed. How do I evaluate these APIs onto my Emulator ?
It does mention about proper Library path to be loaded which I have done the same, but however, my intention is to look through the ActionScript code of these APIs and understand its flow/content and then realise it on the Emulator. But I am not able to get it. Am I missing anything here ? Kindly comment.

Thanks

You CANNOT test the Platform Services in the Device Central Emulator. You have to use RDA or Real Device to check the working of Platform Services .

Sajid,

I got RDA working and able to see some output. However, for my .swf file to emulate onto RDA, it requires conversion to .sis or .sisx format. How to convert .swf to .sis ? Any clue ? Thanks

Firstly, u didnt need to convert swf to sis to test it . Read my previous post :

However, to package a swf into sis , u can use an online packaging tool :
swfpack
