I found this nice page about the subject, on Pys60 wiki:
Compiling PyS60

But the page... is empty!!!

I'd like to compile for UIQ platform, so I am not interested on UI part, I just care about the interpreter: is it possibile to compile pys60 to obtain just a .exe to be launched from ESHELL.EXE?

UIQ should be possible. I was able to compile the core dll( PythonForSymbian ) for UIQ. Its been a while though and I didn't try to create UIQ app for it. I also made a small app for S80 for myself long ago. Very simple( S80 example and less than 10 lines of extra code) and not much functionality( no input\output ). It just launched a small background script, but it showed that Python for S80 is possible. I don't think UIQ is an exception.

Great!
Can you give me more details? Did you write down some notes?....
I know about an old attempt of UIQ port for Python, but it does not work on my a1000 phone.

I don't remember that I had to do anything special. Needed to run that patch that is needed for S60 sdks also, but I don't recall any problems with it. But as I said, I didn't try to create UIQ app for it. I just tested if it compiles. Used UIQ3 sdk by the way.

I think I could do a small how-to

I started working on an UIQ port and I'm getting promising results. There are not many UI components done yet so more work is needed for making a usable GUI with it. But at least following UI components are working:
  • appuifw.Canvas
  • appuifw.note
And the new graphics module I'm also working on. Now it has support for S60 3rd, 2nd and UIQ 3
- With Canvas, you can already write text to screen.
- The font_leaktest.py I use runs perfectly on UIQ.
- Graphics_Shot_UIQ.png

Some others:
  • sysinfo - No ringtype nor active_profile
  • socket - No Access point selection

I haven't been able to make appuifw.Text to work yet, but after it is done I'll release a test build for people to try out.

I'm sure it is possible. But I focus on UIQ 3 first. If I have the time, I'll check out UIQ2 after getting most of the features working.
