Hey,

I heard the coolest thing from a salesman in a computerstore that sounded too cool to be true.

He told me that it is (standard) possible to use a bluetooth enabled phone as a remote controller for some of his PC functions. He said that with some Sony Ericcson phones it is standard possible to use bluetooth to handle the controls of Windows Media Player. He was not sure about Nokia phones.

Can anyone confirm this? And is this also possible with a Nokia phone?

I am looking for a new Windows Vista Portable Media Centre laptop, and at first I was putting my hopes on HP. This was because of the remote controller HP includes with some PMC laptops. According to the salesman, the new models come with bluetooth remotes, instead of the old IR models.
If it's true that I can use my phone as remote I can easily expand my horizon to other brands (not that I have grudge against HP, just more freedom of choice).

Hope someone can tell me more about this feature...

Grt,
Wing

The brand doesn't actually matter, all you need is a windows machine that has BT connectivity (either build in or, added like USB BT dongle etc.) and special software installed in your phone (also something is likely to required to be installed into the PC as well), anyway, just go Google.com and write something like "+REmote +control +symbian" to find links to freeware remote control applications.

Dear yucca,

thank you for your reply.

the salesman mentioned that it is standard on the Windows media centre software, and also standard on some Sony Ericcson phones.

So if I understand correctly from your writing, Nokia does not standard support such function?

you can find opensource projects that have readily-compiled versions, thus it is better than build pre-installed support really..

Thanks for replying.

Anyone experience with bluetooth remote control applications for the computer? Most ones I encounter are IR support for TV and VCR, but not for the computer.
