Hello
I am developping an application for my mobile phone (6136) s40. I use FileConnection API (JSR-75) to write some data in a file. The problem is that my midlet prompt to the user (me) frequently if I agree to access to the fileConnection... I read "MIDP 2.0: Signed MIDlet Developer's Guide v2.0", and I undestand that the solution is to sign my Midlet. I will be the only user of this application on my phone and I develop for fun, not for making money... So I don't wan't to pay for signing my application. I see on Verisign that the price are very high. I am not ready to spend so much for that... So do you know if there is a low cost solution ? Is it possible to tell to my phone that my application must run as trusted without signing it ? Nara20 |

1-year valid certificate from Thawte cost me $199.
Maybe S40 3rd allows a user to add custom certificate into its trustore, like S60 do, or not? |

"Maybe S40 3rd allows a user to add custom certificate into its trustore"
Not possible 'like S60 do, or not?" Not possible on S60 devices either (except on S60 2nd Edition devices) Hartti |

Hello
There is perharps a solution without signing my midlet : I see that when I go to my mobile phone to Menu/Applications/Collections/My application/Options/App. access/Data access In this menu I can configure 1°/ Multimedia rec. 2°/ Read user data 3°/ Add and edit data And for each menu item, I have the following sub items : A°/ Ask every time B°/ Ask first time only C°/ Always allowed D°/ Not allowed The problem is this that some sub items are disabled : A B C D 1 X 2 X X 3 X X for example 3 B : I cannot for "Add and edit data" select "Ask first time only". Is it possible to enable these sub-menu items on my device (6136 s40) without signing my midlet ? And so why are theses options are disabled ? $199 is very very expensive !!! And it's only for a year. But thanks for this answer. I have another question : When I go to my phone in : Menu/Security/User certificates (and Authorithy certificates) When you means "Maybe S40 3rd allows a user to add custom certificate into its trustore", you want to tell about this user certificates ? Is it possible to add a user certificate ? And what is it doing for ? Thanks for advance.... Nara20 |

That fact that S40/S60 3rd have their trustores closed is very sad.
I cannot understand this policy. |

This is as recommended in MIDP 2/JTWI/MSA. You should file a comment to the MIDP 3 JSR about this matter.
