Hello,

I have been trying lots of different Bluetooth adapters,
out of personal and Symbian interest. Here is what I have
found:

1. Anycom USB Bluetooth adapter:
Got it to work with the Nokia 7650 PC Suite.
DUN works.
FAX works.
I could never get a pure serial port
connection to work. It may work now.
There is an update available. (tried sending text to
a hyper terminal from a 7650)
More later.

2. Epox USB: Mostly works. Unable to recieve files
with File Transfer Profile. Widcomm software
version for download on their website 1.2.2.6
(current 1.2.2.15) Poor support.
www.epox.nl

3. SCM Zio USB: Same problem as above. Widcomm
software version download is 1.2.2.9
Poor support.

4. 3-Com PCMCIA card:
Does everything it promises. File transfer. DUN. FAX.
Serial port. Good reception. Sees devices 50m away
with it cute little pop up antenna. (the antenna does
make a big difference whether it is in or out)

5. Microstar International:
Uses Widcomm software. Download version on website
is current Widcomm version 1.2.2.15
Has some mobile phone support. (some extra software)
I am still waiting on my order for one.
Talked about in the Internet - reputedly works well.
Widcomm software needs configuring in some cases in
the registry in order to recieve files well:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Widcomm/BTConfig/Services/0004/
change "AcceptOther" from 0 to 1.

6. Socket PCMCIA:
A must Bluetooth debugging in the Nokia 60 Series
emulator.(or Nokia DTL-4) Nokia has a PDF document
about how to set it up to work with the emulator. In
this case the Windows software is not installed, but
rather the card is installed so Windows sees it only
as a serial port. The 60 Series emulator then uses its
own BT stack. It does not work otherwise in Windows
when installed in this way.

When installed in Windows2000, from my and others' experience, it
works badly. Windows SW often complains "device not available".
We haven't been able to get it to connect with a 7650
using the 7650 PC Connectivity Suite. Tried two different
new cards, with the same result. Driver update downloads
are not available on Socket's web site, as they are trying
to sell the software for a high price for use with Nokia
DTL-4 cards. Socket doesn't seem particularly interested in
producing quality Windows PC software, only software for
Windows CE.

I was particularly disappointed with this, since it was the
most expensive BT adapter on the market, and is recommended
in various places by Nokia as a replacement to their DTL-4,
which has been discontinued. :-(

More later.
