Bluetooth gps pys60/linux -

I have my garmin etrex connected to my nokia e60 through an rs232->bluetooth converter. All kinds of nmea protocol programmes work incuding dump_nmea.py and nmea_info.py.
 However, I cannot get these python scripts workin on either windows 2k or linux (ubuntu 7.04). I can make a connection using pybluez using L2CAP but the recv(data) hangs. My ignorance of the meaning of all these socket protocols prevent me from inventing a solution. To me it seems that pybluez does not have an equivalent for sock=socket.socket(socket.AF_BT, socket.SOCK_STREAM)Has any body a working example for a comparable case?
