Bluetooth: No audio until connection -

With the Nokia E50 phone and my car Bluetooth, there is no audio until the party I am calling actually answers the phone -- I do not hear it ringing over the car speaker (Bluetooth). With my last phone, after dialing, I would hear the ringing and then hear the person answer. Is there a way to correct this?
