Hi all,
I'd like to launch Nokia Maps application with some arguments passed to it to show a map with some locations (as "lollipops"). I understood that Map and Navigation API would help me to achieve this goal. Nevertheless, according to this table the API in question would appear only in S60 3rd Ed FP2 SDK - which is not available yet. Am I right? Does anyone know when it's gonna be available? It's very odd from Nokia that they publish an API without the underlying SDK ... Thanks in advance, Tote |

Hi Tote,
There is some unofficial info circulating that availability of the 3rd edition FP2 SDK is going to be in early October. Along with this came info that Map & Navigation API is going to be available as a separate 3rd Edition FP 1&2 compatible SDK plugin under special licensing terms , similar to Google's - free for free applications and license fee based for commercial apps. And yes you should be able to perform these actions. So I guess we'll have to wait until then.. Hope that helps Here is a more descriptive link of the API: http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/reso...avigation.html cheers, jures |

Thanks for the info, Jures! To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if Nokia made Map and Navigation API available to older devices than those based on FP2. Here basically I mean FP1 devices such as N95 and E90.

So for now it is impossible to pass an argument such as lmx file containing landmark or something like that to start Nokia Maps and show that landmark?

Yes, afaik it's not yet available. It's, I guess, coming in 3rd Ed FP2 - probably this year.

Thanks for your reply, so we need to be a bit patient.

FP2 beta is out but I still doesn't see any API to show location on map.

The Maps application (by Nokia Multimedia, who also creates the Nseries devices) is separate, and not part of S60 itself (hence no Maps application APIs in the S60 SDK).

FP2 is out, and i can't see the map and navigation API on it
![]() Does anyone have any information about this? |

The API was dropped from the SDK for licensing issues regarding the map data. In order to access the data through the API one would need to sign a license and in some cases pay royalties for the data.
More details will be announced soon. -- Lucian Today's useful link: On device debugging - screencasts Yesterday's useful link: How do I start programming for Symbian OS? Latest blog post: Build without an SDK, test without a device

Hi folks,
are there any more details about that topic known yet? thanks in advance. heaniirs |

Work in progress still unfortunately.
One API from the package has to be removed, then we had to write a new example application since the existing one was relying exclusively in the removed part. Now the API is being repackaged, the documentation reviewed and updated, ... the usuals. It will still take some time. -- Lucian Today's useful link: On device debugging - screencasts Yesterday's useful link: How do I start programming for Symbian OS? you can use external location SDKs. like that of atlasMobile for j2me. you can get maps, geocoding and reverse geocoding, routing etc. there are some other players in that category as well.

Hi,
Sorry if I've missed an announcement but is there still no news about the release of this API? I'm very interested in the licensing terms, particularly the "free for free applications" side of things. Sorcery |

Well, actually you've really missed the announcement regarding the launch of AtlasMobile API v3.2.
you can find it at: http://www.lbszone.com/content/view/3983/2/ and here |
