Hi guys,

I have an external gps device which allows me to receive longitude
and latitude i.e. a point(x,y) and would like to compute the exact distance (in meter) from another gps point(x^1,y^1) as good as possible!

Could someone help, where to start with. Are there important issues? API's etc..

Ever GPS device will give you the position with some degree of accuracy.

Calculating the distance between two known points is just well-known mathematics (algorithms).

thank you for your reply! and sorry for not being precise enough in
my previous posting.

checking for GPS-position is unfortunately not only a test for distance between 2 points. What I probalby have to do is some sort of a
structure (probably involving a database) to store previous gps positions in a
way that is better/easy accessable so that after receiving a new GPS-(x,y) signal
a comparison would be easy doable.

On a device, we have a limited amount of power and testing every single point would most likely kill the battery.

I think that there are well-known procedure/algorithms that I can look at.., before "inventing the wheel again"...
If you have some references and want to share them with me, I would very much appreciate this.
