Hi guys,

A-GPS rocks, when it works. I can get a lock within a minute, well sometimes. Few days ago I was at Bank station(London), tried to get a lock. I had to wait at least 10 minutes with A-GPS, no success Today in the morning lock in 15 minutes, nice. Coming home, same place no lock in 8 minutes, grrr

I was wonder what a hack went wrong? I checked the log and could see that when the AGPS lock was bloody slow then now packet were transfered. This is the worst I could find:

Directon: Out
Type: Pack
Duration: 7:31 !!!!!!!
Sent: 0 kb
Received: 0 kb

Possible reasons:
-supl.nokia.com is down, busy, not responding
-Orange GPRS is crap

So I think Nokia should put a timeout when it tries use AGPS and access the position server

Am I the only one with this problem? What do you reckon?

I have been developing a personal tracking service on N95 (J2ME) and have found some interesting evidence:

If you attempt to inteface with the GPS aerial and the device feels there is insufficient battery power, applications will not be allowed to attach to it.

If applications that have already attached to the aerial drain the battery it will continue to do so until the battery is exhaused. Starting/restarting application under low battery might stop the application attaching to the aerial again.

AGPS does NOT appear to fire a query to supl.nokia.com if the GPS aerial is not working due issues like limited power. (This might be your problem)

I am currently testing to see what recovers device from stopping GPS service. I have been charging the device while running my GPS application but sad to say the application doesn't appear to recover - even though it is receiving charge.

Can anyone confirm the above? I'm not too impressed with the fact I might loose GPS clients for extended periods of time if their battery gets a little low.
