To develop a location based application on s60 3rd edition FP1 SDK that actually uses the map and navigation API to display map, it is said in the documentation that a third party map data provider application is required. In the actual device (N95), there is an application called Nokia maps that actually provides map data for the API but on a s60 3rd edition FP1 SDK, nokia didnt provide any application so a third pary application is required, any idea were can we get such an application????

The API was introduced in S60 3rd Edition supporting Feature Pack 2 and was then backported to S60 3rd Edition supporting Feature Pack 1. There should be therefore no surprise that the FP1 SDK does not contain the API, its documentation and the needed service provider application.
Currently the FP2 SDK is not released and even more, the API will not be included in the SDK. As such any discussion about the availability of the reference application is premature. It is our intention that the API package to contain a reference provider application but more comments once the API is released. Until then please do send me a private message if you have more questions related to this unrelased API. -- Lucian Today's useful link: On device debugging - screencasts Yesterday's useful link: How do I start programming for Symbian OS? I'm very interested in that Nokia Maps API. I think it's not released yet, right? But, is it there anything I could start using to have development done when it will be released?
Thank you |

Atleast on the OVI it is being talked about, wonder if it applies to others also :-

There is (and there will not be in the near future) no native Maps & Navigation API. If you are interested in web technologies have a look at the Ovi Maps Player API (http://www.forum.nokia.com/ovi)
