Hi
I have been trying this for a few days now. At my wits end.
I have an E61i and Ubuntu (laptop) with Anycom Bt dongle.The dongle works fine. It sees both myE61i and Blackberry(so I know theres no problem with it)
I am trying to get the bluetooth(bt) console to work.

I can access the c: and e: drive on E61i through bt, however, when I register a serial port, E61 says "no serial ports found".
Here is what I am doing.

$ hcitool dev ( it returns my phones name and address)
$ sdptool add --channel=3 SP ( I assume you just pick a random channel..I have tried 2, 5)
$ rfcomm listen rfcomm0 3 ( I have seen some cases where it is rfcomm3 3... whats the difference)

I get the ff. message
...waiting for connection on channel 3

then I go to E61i btconsole in python and
select my computer for connection.

"no serial ports found"

I am wasting too much time on this thing. Why arent my devices talking .Any help is appreciated.

I am not sure, but in Ubuntu, do we need to create a serial port for BT or is it automatically created?

Have a Check on that!

Ok, I will look into it.
In the meantime I looked at rfcomm.conf in /etc/bluetooth
and here is what it says

#
# RFCOMM configuration file.
#

#rfcomm0 {
# # Automatically bind the device at startup
# bind no;
#
# # Bluetooth address of the device
# device 11:22:33:44:55:66;
#
# # RFCOMM channel for the connection
# channel 1;
#
# # Description of the connection
# comment "Example Bluetooth device";
#}

This is the case both b/4 and after I try setting serial port.
I'm new to linux so not sure what this means ... since everything is commented out. Should I put in my E61i address in there and uncomment everything?

I'll bet you're using Ubuntu 8.04. I believe there's a bug in the kernel limiting the use of serial ports.
Comunication with the mobile phone works however perfectly with Ubuntu 7.10.
I had the same problem and finally decided to downgrade to 7.10 (by freshly installing it that is). Another possiblity is for you to boot Ubuntu 7.10 in Live CD; this should do the trick for you.

Note: If you're able to get it to work in 8.04 somehow, let me know.

bmichel,
You are right I am using 8.04. Thanks for telling me about the bug. And if I find a solution, I will post it here.
I will see if I can get it to work from liveCD.

I also have 8.04 and this problem.. is there any solution that does not involve 7.10?
