Hello there, I just recently got a new 6120, and I'm new to the file system of this symbian v3 fp1 version, which is completely different from what I had on my old old 3660. Well I have something simple to ask, I've installed a java application to my phone, and it closes, due to an exception error, I think it was still running at the background when I tried to remove it, and it failed, sort of, but some of the files together with the jar file was removed, but it now left the icon in the application folder, when i remove it, nothing seems to happen, i've searched through the memory card, and i've removed what I think it related to that file, but it's still there...any ideas? if i remove the memory card, the icon will be gone, i know if i format the card, it'll be fine, but i don't want to do that...sorry for the long post, i hope u understand what i'm saying here=>
It's not just as simple as it used to be, due to the improved security on the file system, help? => Thanks for reading, Kevin - Malaysia hmmm...thing might help...I found search the memory card for the file name, deleted the folder in private, then i did another search in every files in the memory card, and then look inside if the file contains the file name, and deleted it as well, so now the original icon of that file is not there, but the default application icon is shown. |

Hi kevinpunya! Welcome to Nokia Developer Discussion Boards!! :)
Have you tried restarting the phone ? Can you see your application listed in the Application manager of the device, If so try removing it from there. As a final way try reinstalling the same app and uninstall it from the application manager - Just give a try. Regards Gopal |

Hi Kevin,
menu icon structure is maintained in a XML file (appshelldata.xml, but I could be wrong here) that is not accessible with standard file managers (due to security restrictions). What you could try to do is to reinstall your application and then retry to uninstall it. Hope it helps, Pit |

Thanks for the reply, I wanted to reinstall the program, the thing is I lost the installer! I must have cut it into the phone and once installed, I've deleted it! Only god can help me now! or just format the card...hehe...I'm going home to check on my back-up and see if the file can be found so that I can perform the reinstalation again...I've been searching for that installer all night! But failed to find it...
balagopalks: I've restarted the phone, that program is not in the App Man, but then the icon is still in the App Folder...It's not a big problem, but I just want it gone! => jappit: It's just too bad that there are so much restrictions now, but there are there for a reason...oh well... Hope that I'll be able to fix it, I didn't want to format the card because there are a few installed application that came with the phone, which I do not have the installer to it, but I have a copy of the original memory card; here comes the second question: I do not know how to extract the installer as it is stored here and there inside the private folder, any ideas? There is a SIS file, then some other files too, the SIS file is just too small to be the standalone installer... |

If you remember the name of the app, you can try searching in the internet or can try contacting the developer/company for the app.

hey guys, I manage to find the install of that program, and I try installing it back, but it's still the same once the program is removed, so there's no luck with that, so I did myself some digging in all of the files in the memory card, and saw those linkage of the numbers which is tied to that particular file and I manage to delete it...it's so hard to find it out...but I did...if this is installed on the phone, we can't do anything can't we?=>
Thanks for reading n helping... Kevin |

This is not a normal case. Usually once a Java app is removed or Uninstalled its Icon will also be gone. Not sure why the icon is not removing in your case.

Hello kevinpunya,
in addition to notes by balagopalks, you could try testing with some other devices (especially newer ones). In case you do not have devices available, -you could try with Forum Nokia's Remote Device Access (RDA) service which have latest S60 devices available. Using the RDA service is free of charge. Forum Nokia Remote Device Access: http://www.forum.nokia.com/Resources...Device_Access/ -Or, you could let us to do further testing by providing the related application via upload (please see the attached image on this option). Regards, r2j7 |
