Hi all,
I a newbee in symbian, i want an application which when provided an address(some website or some from some server...i dont knwo exactly ) should start downloading the contents, the basic purpose of this application is to check the downloading speed.
Can anybody guide me how to start with it.

Any help will be highly appreciated...

I guess you can start with HTTP example, which are part of the SDK, e.g. WebClient (in the S60 SDK 3rd FP2v 1.1), which is in the folder S60_3rd_FP2_SDK_v1.1\S60CppExamples\WebClient. Look also for the white papers on the forum.nokia web site and search Wiki for "HTTP" keyword to find out some interesting articles (e.g. http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.ph..._on_Symbian_OS)

I am using S60 SDK 2nd FP2. Does that make any difference???

Hi,

no it does not make a difference, the HTTP engine is already part of your SDK.

If a file needs to be downloaded through FTP, does symbian supports FTP???

regarding the FTP I must say NO, there is not the API for all phone models, but you are pretty lucky, as for the S60 2nd FP2, there are FTP libraries. Check the link here:

Otherwise you have to implement FTP on your own or try the port:
