I just had a strange thought: pys60 is great, don't get me wrong, but I had the worrying thought that it might provide an easy way for a potential terrorist to develop an sms triggered detonator - it would be easy in pys60 to write code to respond to a predefined message from a certain number, perhaps using output voltage of the vibration device. Does anyone think this might happen? Does it worry anyone? I've read about phone triggered bombs but thought they must be pretty complicated; pys60 would make it easy.

Hi, jtullis,

Yes, you could make an application that sends a SMS without the knowlegde of the user. But people should be careful about what they install on the device. For SMS services, user must sign the application, and on installation he will be alerted of the capabilities used by the application. If he accepts, he is assuming the risk.

That's why you should never install unknown applications

EDIT: I did not get the question. Only after explanation upwards, see my other post

BR,

Rafael.

Um...it would be his phone anyway, so that doesn't really make any difference. When I say bomb I don't mean computer virus, I mean explosive device! I think you've got the wrong end of my post

Oh sorry!

Now I got it ...

Well, I have never read about explosive devices activated by SMS, but it could be done, I suppose.

I'm kind of scared now

For all of this I thought why not make use of PyS60 to make a mobile bomb detector
http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/fo...d.php?t=140240

Trying to work upon it, but it seems its quite difficult project for my expertise as I have limited knowledge of interfaces that can detect smells.
If you have any ideas please do suggest.

IDEAS is all they need but still they think only Genius can give them that.

Some nations want to make mandatory to put a radiation sensor for detecting nuclears bombs and terrorist using it !
And with the new sensor framework we could use our phone like a geiger counter

And of course you can also do all of this with a 17th century clock to trigger a bomb or a unexposed film from the 18th century to detect radiation. They may be bigger or slower but they are as effective.

Darn am I old.

Yes, it worries ME since I figured out how to connect a phone to a PIC microcontroller just using two wires and let them turn on a LED!
That's way I'm not givng out further infos about the projct... It works... and that's all, if you want to know how I did it... you'll have to discover it by yourself.

No, I won't give you any link!

This thread will be soon detected by Echelon and all participants will be persecuted.

P.S.
My project was intended to enable to control home devices from remote through SMSs... but like any technology, it can have good or bad uses...
