If I understand correctly, you what to compare Symbian C++ and Java programming on Nokia Serie 60 platform. To some extend, the answer is definitely YES. The reasons are as follows:
1) From OS point view, Symbian OS itself is created in Symbian C++ rather than Java. The reason is that C++ code is more effient than Java code. Applications implemented in Symbian C++ run much faster than Java code. 2) Using Symbian C++ programming exposes much more APIs to developers than Java. Currently, by using Symbian SDK, you can manipulate almost all of the APIs available for your development. On the contrary, currently Java virtual machine only provides you a "Sandbox" for running your application. It is very hard to develop some applications using some features like telephony, MMS, browsing, bluetooth (if there is no optional package) etc. Of course, Java has its strong point like portabilty. Some Java applications can run on a lot of phones without recompiling. Hopefully, I have answered your question. Liuxg Forum Nokia

i think you can get quite __TWO__ different answers in board Symbian and J2ME, they are good at different area. and this question seems like that one "Which is more important for human beings, EATING or DRINGKING?", they are not in the same dimension.
and i suggest review your problem before act, and see its requirements, which technology you have to choose. then you will get the answer. hope it is helpful... best regards. |
