I just bought a new bluetooth based mouse, and thought... Bluetooth... hey... that's a nice new wide-ranging standard. But have found out that the nokia software doesn't support other devices, or just any "Windows bluetooth transcievers" - only nokia based ones. Is this something that's likely to change ?

I mean... shouldn't Bluetooth be able to replace the need for infrared or serial links - once the technology has settled well in with the products that exist on the market ?

Will nokia only keep supporting their proprietary products, or will we see support for the new and coming products. I mean - we'll see portable pc's or pda's soon enough with integrated bluetooth support - what good is it if the nokia software won't work with it ?

for reference - the combo I tried is :
Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse and transciever
Nokia 8910

What are the use cases / functions that you would like to do between these devices?

well... I've been reading a bit around the net and this forum, and it may be mostly based on microsoft's lack of support for a com port...

I have been able to connect the device using pairing (control panel -> wireless links), and apart from an error on the phone stating that the device cannot be viewed, the link is created and authenticated.

I would like to see support for the basic data connectivity software, so I could sync my contacts and calendar with outlook/exchange
