I found the FORMAT_TONE specification somewhat hard to understand at first but finally managed to figure it out. In any case it still is rather hard to actually get what you want into your code. I'm not sure whether or not there already is a tool for this but anyways i wrote a small application that lets you input a text string describing what you want played, for example:
L16 O1 C D E F G A B P P O2 C+ D+ Lx : set length to 1/x tones Ox : set octave to x P : pause the program will output the data either as a binary resource file, hex string or (byte)0x??, (byte)0x?? format The program doesnt have any "preview/prelisten" functionality though. If this would be of interest to anyone, drop a line.

Looks like your program is gaining a big audience Sensei. Maybe you can post a link where people can download it...

Wow. With all this fuss over something this simple I just had to give this program a cool name. It's now called the "MIDlet DeeJay". Fancy eh? Well actually it's not just the window topic that was changed... I even changed the filename as well! Woohoo >:)
Ehm, seriously. I've been really encouraged by alot of people to improve the program and the latest version can do alot more than what the one most of you have can. It now utilizes all of the functionality described in the smart messaging ringing tone specification, including patterns, looping, volume changing etc. I also added a preview button just the other day so now you don't have to copy-paste, compile and emulate every time you want to hear if what you've typed in there is actually music or just a bunch of beeps and blirps (not that a doubt your musical skills). =) And since a download link was requested I decided to put my 1337 webdesigning skillz to the test and threw together a page for the danged thing. I really hope this application will be of help to yall. Download below: http://senseitg.ath.cx/ |

Hmm.. does "Save to binary resource" work already?
I try to use it and get empty files. |
