Hi,
I've followed the instructions exactly from Setting_Up_and_Using_Bluetooth_Testing_Env_v1_3.pdf Here's what i did to install my Socket CF Bluetooth card. I never did install the digianswer software once, this laptop is brand new to the bluetooth card. 1) Followed instructions exactly. Hardware type (ports), standard type, communications port. Installation finished. 2) The 'safely remove hardware' icon in my system tray says that the Socket BT card is installed on COM 4. 3) Went to C:\Symbian\6.1\Series60\Epoc32\Wins\c\system\data\bt.esk 4) Made the following changes: [hci] hcidllfilename= hci.dll port= 3 5) Ran EPOC at command line 6) Went to tools>notepad and typed a simple message. 7) Send message > bluetooth 8) Emulator tells me Bluetooth is off. Do i want to turn it on? Yes! 9) Clicking on Yes causes the emulator to crash. I do not get the 'searching for devices' screen. The result remains the same whether or not i switch bluetooth on or off on my 3650, but i don't think that is the problem. This is rather worrying. Can someone please help me out? - advo - P.S: I'm testing this on a friends Acer laptop. Not sure of model. |

Make sure the firmware revision on your card is F and only F.

SHIT SHIT SHIT i waited half a month for this card to arrive and put a great deal of investment in it.
Don't give me bad news man.. Anyway, how do i check the revision number, there are a numbers and funny codes scattered all around the box and card. I'll just state those that look important, pls help me identify the revision number: On the Plastic Box: Product ID : BL4517-386 P/N 6560-00330 C The cardboard lining that makes the face of the package under the plastic casing, has a number underneath the area where the CF card is 'wedged': 6660-00019 B On the physical CF Card Topmost number: 8510-00159G Below it : S/N 0304000438 3 other funny numbers on the bottom half of the card: [R]01NYDA|342 FCC ID?CWTBTC-1 IC:1788F-BTC1 These 3 numbers are right above the black and white socket logo behind the card. Please help me out, i'm running out of time. I just got this card a few weeks back. - advo - |

okay i guess 8510-00159G is my revision number? Do they name their revisions according to alphabetical order? If so does G mean it is a more recent revision than F?
I can't use G? |
|
Btw,
the back of the box says that it is compatible with a few nokia phones including the 7650. the 3650 is NOT mentioned, i thought there wasn't anything wrong with this as the 3650 was probably still pretty new when this card was released, so it probably isn't stated at the back of the box 'yet'. I don't know if socket accepts exchanging cards, because i have one of the wrong firmware revision. It may take as long as a month, looking at where i stay, help me! - advo - |

8510-00159G this is the newest and the one that does not work with the emulator. While it works with the actual phone, the emulator does not support it. Sorry for the bad news.
I asked somebody from Socket about the F revision some time ago and they told me to "forget about it" - well in nicer words of course. You should look for one on e-bay - I got one there for $80. Just contact the person before you bid and make sure they did not upgrade the firmware. Or wait for Nokia to release the SDK with support for G but that may take forever and you'll be stuck with a very expensive card. Good luck. Victor |

Thanks for the quick reply
When Socket told u to "forget about it", what did they mean? that "F" is no longer in production? |
|
btw,
Could you give me an example of the 1) firmware revision number 2) Product Number/ID of a card with a firmware revision "F"? just wanna know, in case i need such details in lookin for an "F" card. Is there only one type of "F" revision ? what i mean is, does the are there variations of the "F" revision, does the number preceding the "F" vary? Thanks alot man -advo- |

8510-00159 F
Socket said they were no longer making the F revision and did think any of their distributors had it in stock. |
|
Just wondering....
Has anyone else had this problem? |
|
Yes. Everyone has this problem.
