Setting Up and Using Bluetooth Hardware with Development Tools document describes how you can use Bluetooth hardware with the latest C++ tools (Series 60 SDK 2.0 and 2.1 Beta, Series 90 SDK 1.0 Beta).
Major differences between development and target environments have been depicted, system requirements for software and hardware are described, and installation/configuration instructions are described. Brief introduction on how to run Bluetooth examples is also covered. Direct link to Bluetooth documents page: http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/1,,1_43_40,00.html#2 Please note that the older 'Setting Up...' document is still valid for the Series 60 SDK v1.2. Should it be possible to use the steps mentioned in the document that use the TDK PC Card, with any of the current series 60 java SDK's?
I have the TDK PC Card set up as a com port (as described in the document) and would like to get it working with a Java SDK. It currently hangs when you go to communication->bluetooth on the emulator. The card is lighting up though, which is someway positive. Should bluetooth communication through the TDK card be possible or is there a new java SDK on its way which will work? Niall |

In section 3.2 (Bluetooth Hardware Requirements) it say:
"You can use BCSP or H4 UART compatible Bluetooth hardware only. In addition to Casira, which is recommended by Symbian, there are also some other commercial Bluetooth devices that can be used." Somebody could name an example of other compatible Bluetooth devices? Greetings Goyo |

After months of waiting and searching I ordered Brainboxes BL-500 from overseas because the description reads:
"It is based on the Cambridge Silicon Radio BlueCore chip, which interfaces to a UART running at 921,600 baud, allowing communications at the full Bluetooth data rates. The antenna for the board is built into the PCB. This card is part of a wide range of Bluetooth products available from Brain Boxes including Type I Compact Flash, USB and RS232." It was $198 from http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=BL-500 Unfortunately we cannot get it to work with S60 V2.0. Several people on my team attempted to get it to work. We have been succesfully using Socket F BT card on the old S60 v1.2. I am now going to order the TDK blu2i PCMCIA card because this new document sais the blu2i serial kit (?serial kit?) works. I will post my results with blu2i here. |

pzul_wisner, I picked up the regular tdk PC Card for about £50 and it seems to be working fine with c++ apps under emulation with the s60 v2.1b sdk (haven't tried 2.0). I'd be interested to know how you get on with blu2i, I would especially like to know if it works with any of the java sdk's.

TDK blu2i PCMCIA card does not work.
Gory details: I received the TDK blu2i PCMCIA Card Friday and tried it immediatly. It installed on COM7, which is supposed to work ( according to this document ). The Connections->Bluetooth application in the emulator produced an immediate access violation. Niether reinstalling the sdk or rebooting did any good. I tried changing the COM port to COM2. Now the Bluetooth application opens, the blue indicator light on the card comes on. But then nothing happens - the settings form is never drawn. Seems like the bluetooth device is not responding. I looked into blu2i a little further. It seems to implement a HAYES AT command set - not BCSP or HCI H4. What?!?! I poked around the www.blu2i.com web site and found special Nokia instructions for converting blu2i to BCSP. But the instructions are for the "Develop Kit" version - some odd external device that connects to the serial port, but for some reason also involves a parallel cable. Out of desperation I tried to adapt the instructions to my pc card - of course it did not work. My next GUESS: TDK Bluetooth PC Card+ http://www.tdksystems.com/products/tech.asp?id=342 TRBLU04-00300-01 "-CSR BC2 Chip set " The previous poster reports it works with V2.1b. Also the screen shots in the document show "TDK Bluetooth_PC_Card_II" in the "Found New Hardware" dialog. |

Howdy all,
can I, with this Kits (TDK and other), use to development or only to communication with other bluetooth comm, for i.e. the Nokia 3650? I would like to develop an application using the Bluetooth communication. What do you recommends me? Regards, Marcelo Muzilli |

Yeap... Really, it is difficult for a good response.
If you look at all messages in the Forum Nokia Discussion Board you will see that all replies shows the zero (0) numbers. This is incredible!!!! I think that, the help must be between us. Forget the support Nokia tech. Marcelo Muzilli |

I agree completly, there is little or no response from the nokia tech. I wonder if these guys are working full time on this or doing a few hours here and there every week.
Nokia should have experts that actively look to resolve common problems among the development community. ITS IN NOKIAS INTERESTS!! If we get tired of trying to get something working on the nokia handset we might end up looking to Motorola or another handset manufacturer. When I attended the Nokia Developers conference last year, they were saying that forum nokia solves all development woes. Its the place to go for answers. Its the link between the developers and nokia themselves... The amount of forums posts about the dodgy Nokia 6600 PC Suite with no response from nokia is an example of this failure on nokias part.... Feels good to have let off some steam! |

Hello
I'm looking for a PCMCIA bluetooth adapter to work with Series 60 SDK 2.0, and your posts are helping me but: ¿Really is so hard to find a device that works?¿Why does not nokia posts a list of devices compatible? pzul_wisner ¿Have you allready try the TDK TRBLU04-00300-01?¿does it work? I hope you will post your results. Thanks |
|
I don't have a solution for the 2.0 SDK, but for the 2.1 SDK you can use the BTU-X driver and a USB dongle with a CSR chipset.
Your PC must run at at least 2GHz to debug Bluetooth on the 2.x SDK. |
|
Hi
Is it realy possible to use USB dongle (based CSR chipset) with some special driver ??? I'am newbie with bluetooth so I'am wondering what do you mean with BTU-X driver ? Thanks |
|
No news?
Well, I´ll try the TDK PCMCIA card myself, I will tell you how it works. |

TDK Bluetooth PC Card+
http://www.tdksystems.com/products/tech.asp?id=342 TRBLU04-00300-01 "-CSR BC2 Chip set " I tried this one on my 1.8Ghz laptop. I know the document says 2Ghz is the requirement, but I hoped 1.8Ghz would be close enough. Beside, it seemed quite implausable that Cray supercomputing speeds are truely needed. Good news: 1. The device name in the "Found New Hardward" matches the device name "TDK Bluetooth_PC_Card_II" in the "Setting Up Bluetooth" document. (WHY WAS THIS SUCH A SECRET!?!?!?!) So, this must be the PCMCIA card that the author used. 2. The device installed on COM7, which did not work. I changed it to COM2 and also changed the Baud rate from 9600 to 115200. 3. When I openned the Connections->Bluetooth Application, the lights on the PC Card came on and the dialog was visible. I was able to set the device name and do the device inquiry. Bad news: 1. But, after the initial success, it started to get flakey and seems to be having the timeout problems that the document ascribes to having less than 2Ghz. My equipment purchasing frenzy continues.... (but my manager is starting to wonder about my trial and error equipment ordering behavior!) I've ordered a PCI bus PCMCIA "card reader" so that I can try this out on my 3Ghz desktop. "Actiontec PC 750": PCI Dual Slot PCMCIA card reader for desktop systems, Compatible with Type I, II and Type III pc cards $92.63 |
