I have seen posts in other forums where people are using 512 MB MMCs. I just ordered a 1 GB MMC and will post back at the end of the week to let you know if it worked.

Well I have some good news and some bad news:
The 1 gb MMC card works fine! I bought a RiData MMC from Newegg.com and it is recognized by both Windows XP and the Nokia Audio Manager app. The bad news is that there is a limitation on the number of files the 3300's Music Player can recognize. So while I put 200 mp3s on the MMC, only the first 99 show up. Any tracklists (.m3u) that reference mp3s not in that 99 will also give an error when accessed. I called Nokia support and they confirmed that the real limitation is the software only being programmed to "work with" a max of 99 files. So there really is no limit to how big a MMC card you use, but it would seem a 512 MB MMC is a practical limit since in my case that would be around 100 mp3s. I have also been looking for an alternative player (j2me), but haven't found anything that will work. It is actually unlikely that the a 3rd party app would be able to work with the hardware... but I'll keep looking. |

Wouldn't that be 99 files per directory?
Could you test and reply? /Best regards |

All Music files are in a single directory. (if you put them in a different directory, there is no way to "browse" to that directory using the built-in music player).
My current work-a-round is to merge all the tracks for some of my music albums into one big MP3 file. (who wants to listen to just one Pink Floyd song anyway!) Of course this means there is no way to advance to a track within that album... but you can fast forward to a different position within in the track. Maybe Nokia will come out with an upgrade of the OS for the phone??? |

I have been using the 3300 for over a year and recently switched to the 6230. I am using the same 256Mb MMC card and use .AAC format files so often have over 99 audio files - I have to delete some of the ones I have listened to to get to the rest, but the DELETE interface is slow for doing 20+ files. The Music Player program really should be updated to 3 digits.

Have you had trouble with different card brands? I have a 512 mb card branded by ATP. files load fine and play no prob but when I recieve calls the phone turns off and then back on and people get a " service is temporarly unavailable" message. I can call out no problem. wierd huh.

Well, though this is an old thread, I will add my 2 cents.
I got a 1GB card on the EU 3300. Works fine, and here's a workaround for the 99 files limit: create a different folder and fill it with up to 99 songs. Then create one or more than one tracklist (m3u file) for the files in there, and be sure to replace put \[foldername]\ in front of the filenames in the m3u file; by loading up the tracklist you will be able to access the files in this other folder. So far, not all my tracklists have worked this way though I have no clue why. First of all, the firmware player won't read the #extinf lines in the m3u files, whether they point to extra folders or the standard one. It seems the filename length is also involved in causing problems to the player, as the MMC is FAT formatted and thus allows shorter-than-usual names when you account the whole path (path+filename length). I had hoped I could display proper titles through the #extinf while using short filenames to be safe, but so far no dice. At least, there's a way to play them. |

Can you try to reduce the length of the mp3/aac songs and see if it helps? I haven´t heard about this 99 limit for the built in music player before but I do know that the file system itself on the MMC has a limit of 512 files/folders on the MMC with a total length of 8 digits/enter. If you have much longer filenames the 512 limit will decrease.
I´m not sure if this has anything to do with your problem, but maybe you can test to reduce those or place the songs in subfolders on the MMC card and then create a playlist and transfer to the phone? |
