Hello all,
I am to develop a bluetooth mobile application as part of a project. So far I have looked at series 40 (nokia 6230) and series 60 devices (nokia 7610). I am rather confused as to which device I should use as I have to buy one of these devices. The project is to consist of a main server and allow many mobile phones running a MIDlet to send (and may be even recieve) messages via bluetooth in some kind of format (of which format, I don't know yet). Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Vipul |

Well only one of them is current, which is to day only one of them can actually be bought new now.
Namely the 6230, nokia has other current bluetooth phones though. If you are on a budget you might want to look into getting a phone on eBay, as you can make a large saving (over 50% in some cases). eBay is where I get all my phones for testing. Search for "Completed listings" with a min price of 30 pounds (this weeds out people selling phone covers etc for 5 pounds), to get an idea of how much you would be paying on average on ebay for any given phone. Hey thanks for your reply. Obtaining either device is not a problem. The problem I am having is which device is the best to use? I don't think I need a Symbian phone. My application needs to be able to run on a phone, allow the user to make choices and send this information to a desktop server via bluetooth. Possibly the desktop server may need to communicate back to the wireless device.
BTW.... I am a little stuck on what I need to develop my desktop server. Any help would be much appreciated. Ciao, V |

I know nothing about bluetooth programing, so I would say you want to look into the bluetooth api's available for midp1.0, midp2.0 and phone specific libraries, and see whats more useful verses what will work on the must number of phones.
Symbian may also give you more control of the bluetooth capabilities of your phones. But will obviously run on fewer phones. Other than that I cannot be really be any further help. Alex |
