Hi ,
I am wondering why we need Series 60 MIDP SDK 2.1 for Symbian OS to build Java application? Since there is WTK 2.0 and assume that J2ME apps run everywhere , why do we still need Series 60 MIDP SDK 2.1 for Symbian OS? Must we use Series 60 MIDP SDK 2.1 for Symbian OS if we are to build a j2me app that run on Symbian OS? What is the difference between Apps created by J2ME SDK and Series 60's ? Thanks |

J2ME includes many specifications where some are mandatory, others are optional (which means they're not all implemented on all J2ME devices), and manufacturers can and do add things not in the original specifications (JSRs).
So, you don't absolutely have to use it, but the Series 60 MIDP SDK has platform or device specific tools/APIs/libraries (like the Nokia User Interface APIs, etc.). |

Thanks , your explaination was great

Thanks. We're obviously still quite far from the Java utopia/ideal of "write once, run everywhere" (many call the situation "write once, debug everywhere", instead).

Agree.
I predict that Java will be the best choice for server-side program, games and mobile apps. The nature of Java really limit itself in a sandbox , will never be able to do things like C++ . So I am learning Symbian as my second language now :-) |
