Hi,
I downloaded the Series 60 Theme Studio v1.2. Installation was fine, however the program runs really, really slowly. The JRE I'm using is the one supplied by the installation program. I also tried the latest JRE v1.5 - no luck there. If anybody has a solution to the speed problem I would be deeply grateful. I'm running win 2000 SP4, 128 MB ram with enough hard disk space. |

Witness desktop Java performance in action. It is, indeed, slow. Only way to speed it it up is with a faster PC (or for Nokia to rewrite the app - in C++ -, which I don't think will happen).

Hi Petrib,
Thank you for responding. Yes, the performance is pathetically slow. I was browsing a forum at another site, looking for a solution, when I realised a lot of people are complaining about the same thing. The only solution I found was to increase the RAM. I believe 1 GB of RAM is adequate to run the theme studio ! What irritates me is that there are quite a few people out there who seem to get good performance on their low end computers. Anyway, do you know of any other application which would allow me to create / modify themes for the Nokia 7610 ? If you or any body else does know could you please send me a link or point me in the right direction. Thanks, Neel. |

Nokia software developers, are you LISTENING?
Get rid of the java! Make Theme Studio Windows native! Increasing RAM is a ridiculous solution to a ridiculous problem. |

I got a report back from our engineering.
We have acknowledged that the current tool is slow and we are replacing that one with new twool the first part of July that is faster (Carbide.ui). Please remember that Theme creator is for a creative designer, not the end user. It is not meant for a person to customize his personal device. Ron |

The answer means that the tool is intended (was made for) for content developers/creators (industry professionals), rather than the typical user (or, more likely, evolved from an internal Nokia tool that was decided to be made available also for developers).
It doesn't mean that an end user/consumer can't use it, but if it is is hard to use, or has other "features" that a consumer can't be expected to accept, but a developer can endure, they won't necessarily be addressed. This is also reflected by the fact that it is distributed on a developer site, and not on the "regular" nokia.com, or in the sales package CD (how things like Nokia PC Suite is distributed). Contrast that to, e.g, the full Adobe Photoshop vs. Adobe Photoshop Elements; the former is a professional tool and the latter a consumer app. What's then missing is the consumer version of S60 Theme Studio. ![]() |

So is there any so called consumer release for Theme Studio in line? There's no 3rd party solution, and the tool nokia has developed is far too unusable to common users like me. Are we supposed to look at other people's creation and pay for ones we like or will Nokia think something about us buyers and release a less heavier product?
Seriously, I am running Adobe Photoshop CS 9 & 3DSMax 8 simultaneously now, but even them together can't beat this theme studio in sluggishness |

Hi folks, i'm brand spanking new, so i'll try keeping it relatively short and sweet and to the point.
I'm a graphic designer and i want to put together my own theme(s) for me new E61. This almost sounded like the app i needed, but now i'm not so sure. Is there something out there that i could use to build on/duplicate and work over or create new to add to the vodafone themes on my handset? Or am i barking up the wrong tree? Any advice at all appreciated. |

The Nokia S60 Theme Studio 3.0 is the only tool available, if you want to make themes for the E61.

Go ahead and reach out for Indian programmers to develop a much better application for you and your consumers, the way all American companies are doing. Please dont try to make us beleive that the job of creating a simple theme for symbian phones require a superpowerful computer. And a PC with Intel Pentium 4 processor 3.2 GHz HT, 512MB RAM with 915 chipset won't do. This is to bring to everyone's knowledge that a tool for creating missions for a game called "FAR CRY" comes with the game and a PC with configuration mentioned above has no problems doing that job. Anyone playing games would admit how system heavy the game is. I can't understand what is there in Theme Studio that is so system heavy. Ofcourse, selecting a picture for ideal background should not take 10 minutes but it does. I wish other mobile companies like Sony Erricsson come up with more Symbian phones and then give out their release of theme studio for poor customers who have no option but to spend 3 hours for creating a simple theme with tool created by - you know who. Anyways, I still hope Nokia could come up with a better tool and save for his loyal customers like me, their precious time. I've a brand image for Nokia but it needs to do its bit to keep up the image. |

Hi ppl,
you can download the Carbide.ui S60 Theme Edition 3.1 for Symbian OS from Forum Nokia from today. It is faster than Theme Studio.
