Hi!
I'm using Darwin Streaming Server for streaming 3gp contents to the mobiles. There is only one available tool for hinting 3gp files - Quick Time Pro costs 29 USD, am I right? All other tools generating hint tracks incompatible with Darwin. MPEG4IP hints only mp4 files. Question here: Nokia Multimedia Convetor produce not-hinted 3gp files. It can not be used for streaming from Darwin, Philips, Real Network streaming servers. Is there any server supports "Packetization on the fly" so that Nokia 3gp files could be streamed? Is there any freeware tool could hint 3gp files for any rtsp Stream server? And question to Phone guru's: Streaming servers supports mp3 playlists streaming by using shoutcasting so you can stream it over network for use with WinAmp, iTunes: http://URL/Mp3Mount. Does any Nokia support such kind of interaction? If not , converting and streaming mp3 to 3gp or simple downloading mp3 file are only possible ways, right? There are a lot of such questions here without answers - does it mean that forum is without guru's ![]() Thanks, Slava |

hi,
i used mp4box from the gpac project (gpac.sourceforge.net) for hinting files for darwin streaming server. it works on desktop players, such as Relaplayer or Quicktime, and on Pocket PC with Philips Platform4 3gp player as well. i don't know why it won't work on my 6630... Quote:

Hi,
I have a question. I was asked to encode 3gp (hinted). The following are the specs. (Hinted) - 3GP total bitrate : 80kbps max video : 57kbps max audio : 23kbps Frames Per Second : 15fps I usually encode 3GP with PV Author. Now for the clips I encode 80kbps will probably be too low. My normal 3gp clips are encoded at about 128kbps. Have not previously created a hinted 3gp. So I found mp4box. How can I convert a 3gp file that has been encoded at 128kbps to be a hinted 3gp with 80kbps? Do I need to re-encode the avi with mp4box with special settings. How to I encode with the above settings with mp4box? thanks for your help. |

you can not transcode with mp4box, so you have to reencode the video first with pvauthor or ffmpeg or something like that.
mp4box will only hint the file, or convert it to a 3gp fromat, but not transcode to another bitrate. regards, torben |

can anyone confirm, is the hinting patch working for nokia phones as well ? TIA |

I know that 3gp files hinted with mp4box (recent versions) can be streamed to a Nokia device, but I have not been able to do it myself (being unable to get RealPlayer to properly communicate with the server). However, I have some sample streams on an Akamai QTSS server that someone at Nokia was able to stream to a N80. They were all hinted using mp4box -latm. I did once manage to get one of these AAC streams to work on a 6680, but it has not worked since.

Thanks for the feedback. I was able to stream 3gp content with DSS to Nokia 6681 and 6280 several days ago (win32 DSS clone). However 3gp video files hinted with mp4box has no audio or scrambled audio for me, when streamed.
