hi,
is it possible to receive videostreams with a nokia umts phone (6630) in a gprs network?? have a look at http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/1,65...,00.html#table it says that streaming with 6630 is available in wcdma network. does this mean it is not capable of streaming in a gprs network?? i wonder, because i have set up darwin streaming server with properly hinted 3gp and mp4 files (at least i think so, because it works with Real/Quicktime player on desktop computer). but when i try to stream to my 6630 in a gprs network, it finds the file on the server, starts downloading/buffering, but never starts playback... may it be that the provider (Eplus germany) blocks RTP traffic? (see: http://lists.apple.com/archives/stre.../msg00191.html) i have no clue... plz help me out regards, torben |

Streaming will work with GPRS, EDGE and WCDMA just as well (except for speed).

thank you for the response!
so, there's 2 possibilities left: - either the video is not properly encoded or hinted - the network operator (eplus de) blocks rtp traffic (although the session setup with rtsp works fine...) i have set up a small demo page with video/audio encoded in various 3gpp formats. please, everybody feel free to try the streams with your (rtsp/rtp) streaming enabled mobile phone. feedback through the form on the demo page is highly appreciated (just check whether a stream played or not). url: http://141.28.227.78/test.jsp i'm sorry it is plain html and not xhtml or wml, but it works fine on my 6630. i'll keep the server running the next days. please give me feedback, that would help me a lot! tia! regards, torben |

Hi
Have you tried to steam over UMTS? Do the same problem appear as well? I had the same problem with Nokia 6630, streaming over UMTS. My operator used NAT(Network address translation) as a kind of firewall, so the client never received packets, because of wrong IP address. By changing the APN (Access point name) the problem was solved. This might be the problem. Anita |

Dear Anita,
I didn't have the opportunity to test over UMTS. But in fact it was the operator (E-Plus Germany) who blocked the rtp packets. the session setup with rtsp worked fine, maybe because rtsp is sent over tcp. but the rtp packets containing the actual data (sent over udp) never arrived at the 6630... I tried with another SIM card (T-Mobile Germany) and voila -- it worked (of course the quality was not really good because of the slow gprs network)! I also found a list of the "rtsp-friendly operators": http://lists.apple.com/archives/stre.../msg00186.html best regards, torben |
