Hi,

Forgive a beginner, but I need some help and I've looked everywhere. I have a 6600 with software version 3.42.1 on it. I'm trying to work out whether to develop in C++ or Java for a project using 3d graphics. If C++, I can use OpenGL ES, if Java the Mobile 3d api (jsr 184 I think).

But it appears that in order to use Mobile Java 3D graphics API, I need feature pack 2. But I can't find anyway to get this.

Is there anyway a phone can be "upgraded" with a feature pack it doesn't have ?

Or is this a case of "get a newer phone" ? Am I missing the point here ?

Any advice then on 3d graphics on a nokia 6600 ?

The 6600 is based on Symbian OS 7.0s and Series 60 2.0 (= Series 60 2nd Edition *WITHOUT* any "Feature Packs").

It doesn't support OpenGL or JSR-184.

Also, you can't upgrade/update the phone to newer versions of Symbian/Series 60, either.

So, in order to do 3D on the 6600, you have find, license or make your own 3D libraries.

OpenGL and JSR-184 support was added in Series 60 2.6 = Series 60 2nd Edition Feature Pack 2.

Phones based on that version are the 6630, 6680, 6681 and 6682.

Hi,

Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't realise that I'd be stuck with a minimal set of j2me APIs when I bought the phone. Silly me.

Anyway, for other's info, I found this API by Hyprid :

It *says* that it will run on a Nokia 6600. I'll try this out.
