Has anybody experienced the temporary (around 2 to 3 seconds)
black screen when trying to play video on a Canvas ? This
bug only shows up for firmware 3.x or higher. Before that
it works fine. The Canvas in question has the video play
on the top portion (under full screen) and there are gui
elements drawn below. Whenever the video starts, the whole
screen goes black for a couple of seconds and then the
proper repainting occurs. This is obviously a bug and
we have isolated to a very simple piece of sample code.
Question is has anybody come across this and more importantly,
is there a work around for this ?

From comparing the app running on firmwares 2.x and 3.x, it
is obvious that a flashing bug was fixed by adding the
black screen behind the video. Problem is, this black screen
should only be placed behind the video rectangle and not
on the full screen. Hopefully someone from Nokia can shred
some light here (get it, black screen, shred some light, nope).

We are having a problem with the new Nokia firmware.

We develop Java based software that allow users to see live images of from their surveillance camera on their mobile phone. However, we have discovered that the new firmware in Nokia 3G phones cannot dispaly the images(MJPEG).

In previous firmware version( V2.39.140) the images can be displayed. However, new versions I tested (V5.03.08 ) can not display the images.

I understand that java does not support MJPEG, but since previous firmware versions can support MJPEG why can't the new firmware also support MJPEG. We thought that firmware were backward compatible therefore, we are surprised that the new 3G phones can't display MJPEG.

Any assistance would be greatly appericated.Thank you.

Hi. We have also seen this, not to mention that the video scaling on Nokia is a crappy hack my grandmother could have done better:

When reducing the video size it goes from full size to what must be 1/4 size, as far as I can see without reflecting this in VideoControl.getDisplayWidth/Height - but still without actually painting something in the area between set and actually video size => corrupt graphics.

No workaround, resize, refresh like a mad-man.
