Hello All,
I'm a computer engineer and have done some Java and C programming before. I mostly deal with databases nowadays. I'm interested in coding a bluetooth server application that will run on a pc and will discover the clients around. However unfortunately I'm not so knowledgeable on bluetooth technology and I need your help on the following. Neither my laptop nor my cell phone has bluetooth capabilities. Which emulator and application development environment shall I use. In short where do I start? I can spend some money on this to buy hardware if it is necessary but i would rather use some emulator if possible. Please give me some direction here. Your feedback is appreciated. Thanks! Metin |

What you do on the PC will depend on the PC's OS. For Microsoft Windows, search for Bluetooth API details on http://msdn.microsoft.com/ (at least for the built-in Bluetooth support in Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) & later). Or, you can try looking for any documentation provided by the Bluetooth hardware provider you choose.
I suspect you do need a Bluetooth adapter to start with. I've never seen a Bluetooth emulator for PC's (there are phone emulators that can use Bluetooth, but they also depend on the PC actually having Bluetooth hardware). And then you, of course, need some other Bluetooth device(s) to discover, when you get to the point where you have something up & running on your PC. For a PC based app that knows how to handle Bluetooth, you could start with Bemused (I'm sure there are other apps, too, but that's the first one I could recall): http://bemused.sourceforge.net/ The Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group) specifications are on https://www.bluetooth.org |

Thanks petrib. Now, I have bought a Bluetooth USB dungle for my laptop(Invested 30 Turkish Liras, these things were really cheap). However I do not want to replace my Nokia 6620 cell phone just because it does not support bluetooth. New Nokia phones are quiet expensive.
![]() In short now I have a bluetooth dungle installed on my laptop. Where do I go from here? I also installed the Nokia Connectivity Framework software. (I'm not sure if I need this) Can I just start using j2me wireless toolkit and code a bluetooth server application now? Any help is appreciated.. |
