I've written a few midlets and would like to market them. I've looked at Nokia's software market and Handango. It seems they all require programs to be Java Verified first.
Has anyone been through this process? Do you have any tips about which firms are the best / cheapest for Java verification. Is there a way to ge a program Java verified for fee? Thanks in advance. |

Regarding Java verification, Please check this link.
http://javaverified.com/ AFAIK you could not Java verify your app for free. Regards Gopal |

Dont forget that if you wish to market for top end 'smart phones' you will probably need to get your app Symbian signed as well as java verified. Symbian do run a system where you can apply for free Symbian signing as long as you market your app as freeware. see symbian site for details.

Symbian Signed is for C++ programs. You don't need to go through Symbian Signed for Java programs, which is what Java Verified is for.

I submitted my application to java verified. They are "testing" my software since 2 month.

My first question is what does AFAIK stand for?
My situation is this. I have written an 80s style arcade game for Nokia S40s, and would like to see if I can get any money from it. I have been told it needs to be Java Verified and I've looked at the above link from balagopalks. My questions now are: 1. How much will it cost for the midlet to be verified? 2. How long will it take? 3. Will I be quoted a price before testing, so I have the option to say No if the price is higher than expected? 4. Who is recognised as being a better testing company? 5. What do I need to show on the flow diagram jpeg? 6. Are there any testers who will test my application for no charge, but will take a percentage of the of takings when marketed? |

AFAIK = As Far As I Know

Lee, I am in the same position as yourself and am currently testing / correcting my game against the UTC and Nokias 'user experience checklist for j2me apps' before submitting it to Nokias software market. Ive found very little information on the reality of java verification and getting to market - Nokia doesnt have a dedicated Forum for this - what does that tell us ?! I found the answers to most of the questions about verification you ask on the link you say you have already looked at. follow the testing companys links to find thier prices but note they dont all publish them openly, but will no doubt reply to any questions you have. I personally will choose the cheapest I can find as these are all approved quality assurance companies after all so quality should be gauranteed !

An interesting document I have found is https://www.nstl.com/javaverified/docs/UTC_2_0.pdf. This shows an example of a flow diagram and gives other testing criteria.

It may not be necessary, depends on which channel you want to sell it through. Java verification is very expensive, cost about $200 per model. Check out prices here: http://www.relquti.com/UTI/services.htm |

Thank for that Ed. I have been quoted similar prices. The next question is which channels, if any, can we sell games through, without having to get them Java Verified. NokiaSalesChannel and Handango both said they needed to be Java Verified

Sorry for an adv:
JavaVerified is not mandatory when distributing j2me app in Russia (I can't say about other countries), but major content-providers here will require to pass their own test criteria (they will do testing themselves). We do some basic midlet testing for $100 per application on about 35 devices. Free testing is available for ~15 devices. I would recommend to pass it before submitting to any certification program such as javaverified. We pay attention mostly to device-specific issues, such as full screen support, keypad , app pause, sound.
