I'm writing a mapping application that interfaces with the phone hardware through JSR179 (location API) and I want to send that information to a server. The response from the server will be directions/map in the form of a WAP/HTML page that I would like to display in a browser. I'll be using the SDK provided for the Nokia IDE to write the code before JSR179 is available on phones. I'm not really sure how to design this and could use some help.
Here are the 2 ideas I'm considering: 1) I can start by opening up a browser to a server address and have it return local script of some type access the API through javascript (or the mobile equivalent). Then I can just work totally in a browser environment. I don't know what (if any) scripting tools are available in the nokia environment. Can I access an API from a browser? 2) I can write a simple application that collects information from a JSR and then send this to a server. I still expect the server to respond with HTML so I will have to somehow redirect the server response to a browser. I don't know how to do this. Do either of these ideas make sense? Is there a better way to do this? Obviously I'm new to this environment. I'm generally a windows developer and out of my element here. Help.... |
