Symbian Signed +Themes -

Hi,
I have a simple Theme (sis file) for Operating System until Symbian OS 8.1a and Nokia S60 2nd Edition. Now, I like to deploy these Theme (just a Background Picture) to an Nokia Platform S60 3 nd Edition. Is it really necessary to signed a theme with all the costs ?. Are there possibilities to make a self signed cert? Thanks for your response.
