Is it possible to manipulate the CommDB using Python? I want my app to be able to set the default accesspoint.

Do you actually want to open a network connection without asking the user? You need to modify the socket module to do that.

No, I don't want my app to initiate a connection - only to change the default access point. AFAIK this setting resides within CommDBs ConnectionPreferences table.
The purpose of my app is to switch between two configurations: one when I'm home and connects using GnuBox, and another one when I'm out of bluetooth range. The app patches various configfiles (i.e. ProfiMail's account.bin is patched to use another SMTP server).
