Hi ppl,

Can a SIS file (like PyExpat to be precise) be installed in the emulator (1.2 2nd ed. FP2 or FP3)? If so, how?

Thanks.

.sis files contains usually binaries for device. Usually there are targeted for devices only. Emulator builds are distributed by some other mechanism (like .zip). Emulator builds contains binaries made for emulator.

Usually emulator libraries are placed under <sdk_root>\epoc32\release\wins\udeb\z\system\libs\ (the python is in z\apps\python\).

btw: the cElementTree that I've packaged for pys60 does use expat internally. Check thread in this forum. That post also contains links for stuff needed for emulator.

Hey thanks!

Minor note, python appears to be here: z\system\APPS\python in 1.2 2nd Fp2.

~ I have Sun Wireless Toolkit version 2.3 is installed in F:\sw\Sun_wtk23
~ downloaded nS60_jme_sdk_2nd_e_fp3.zip Nokia SDK is in F:\sw\Sun_wtk23\wtklib\devices\S60_2nd_FP3_MIDP_SDK
~ problem 1: downloaded PythonForSeries60_1_2_for_2ndEd_FP3_SDK.zip installer Python_for_2ndEd_FP3_SDK.exe did install to F:\sw\Python60 but
obviously failed to copy Nokia Python files to Nokia SDK.
~ Problem 2: installation review showed that Sumbian SDK EPOC root is null !
~ problem 3: I could not tell installation program path F:\sw\WTK23\wtklib\devices\S60_2nd_FP3_MIDP_SDK\bin\epoc32\release\winscw\udeb\z\system\apps\python

I have Nokia Python in F:\sw\Python60\py2sis having files such as library.zip.
Should I manually copy it and where to ?

thanks in advance,

IceFellow, you installed the Java MIDP SDK. You need the S60 C++ SDK instead.

Hi,

Installing Nokia Python for Nokia C++ SDK failed:

Step 0: Installing Nokia C++ S60 SDK (see below) - seemed to go OK
Step 1: downloaded PythonForSeries60_1_2_for_2ndEd_FP3_SDK.zip from http://www.forum.nokia.com/main.html
Step 2: unzipped PythonForSeries60_1_2_for_2ndEd_FP3_SDK.zip to J:\Download\Nokia\S60\Python
Step 3: executed Python_for_2ndEd_FP3_SDK.exe and installed to N:\pythons60
~ installation software said this is installation for Series 60 Platform SD 2.8
~ *error*: review showed that Sumbian SDK EPOC root is null !
~ I do have folder N:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\Epoc32\winscw\c and N:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd_b\Epoc32\winscw\c
~ I do NOT have any z folders !

How to continue to get Nokia Python to work ?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Installing Nokia S60 C++ SDK:
Step 1: opened J:\Download\Nokia\S60\C++SDK\S60_3_0_CPP_SDK_CW_InstallationGuide_1.0.pdf
Step 2: downloaded Active Perl to J:\Download\Nokia\S60\ActivePerl
~ this is required to be installed BEFORE Nokia SDK
Step 3: run J:\Download\Nokia\S60\ActivePerl\ActivePerl-5.8.8.816-MSWin32-x86-255195.msi
~ installed to N:\Perl version 5.8.8 Build 816
Step 4: downloaded from http://www.forum.nokia.com/main.html to J:\Download\Nokia\S60\C++SDK\S60-SDK-0548-3[1].0-f.3.215f.zip
Step 5: unzipped C++SDK\S60-SDK-0548-3[1].0-f.3.215f.zip to J:\Download\Nokia\S60\C++SDK
Step 6: run J:\Download\Nokia\S60\C++SDK\setup.exe
~ installed to N:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd (i.e. not to C: drive)
~ selected all features (1.07 GB)
~ CLS ARM Q1C Toolchain got installed into N:\CSLArmToolchain
Step 7: created desktop icons
~ should I have restarted before installing Nokia Python ?

Is there any way to manually install Nokia Python SDk to Nokia C++ SDK ?
or is there any method to edit some XML or similar init file for Python installer?

The reason I ask these question is that installing Nokia Python fails.
I have installed ActivePerl-5.8.8.816-MSWin32-x86-255195.msi to N:\Perl
and S60-SDK-0548-3[1].0-f.3.215f.zip to N:\Symbian\9.1.

Python_for_2ndEd_FP3_SDK.exe keeps failing showing that
Symbian SDK EPOC root is null. I have tried to install it to:
~ 1: N:\pythons60 *fails*
~ 2: N:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\Epoc32\tools *fails*
~ 3: N:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\S60Tools *fails*
~ 4: ? where to ? what IS the right *fails*
~ *error*: review shows that Sumbian SDK EPOC root is null !
~ I do have folder N:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd\Epoc32\winscw\c and N:\Symbian\9.1\S60_3rd_b\Epoc32\winscw\c
~ I do NOT have any z folders !

Any ideas, please help !

IceFellow, you installed the S60 3rd Edition C++ SDK, and Python for S60 does not support S60 3rd Edition yet. To run Python for S60, install e.g. S60 2ndEd FP3 C++ SDK.

When will Nokia's Python for S60 support Nokia's S60 3RD EDITION SDK FOR SYMBIAN OS; please, give some estimation; this month...?

Will we loose SVG support or some SVG new features if we decide go back to the older older Nokia C++ SDK just to get Python ?

Could Nokia's S60 3RD EDITION SDK FOR SYMBIAN OS C++ (18.01.2006)
support Python in the same way as S60 2ndEd FP3 C++ SDK does i.e.
providing the same features ?

thanks in advance

Before installing S60 3rd Edition C++ SDK downloaded from http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActivePerl/ and installed Perl version 5.8.8 Build 816 (just in case because of threads @ DiBo).

Having the right Nokia C++ SDK Python SDK instaler found EPOC32 root N:\Symbian\8.1a\S60_2nd_FP3.

Feedback: RELEASE NOTES for Nokia Python for Series 60 Platform 1.2
Campatibility paragraph could say, that Python for S60 does not support S60 3rd Edition and the Symbian version it supports ? Python SDK installer could also say something instead of copying to null ?

Most important, we got Python to work, thanks helping us !

We are working on Python for S60 3rd Ed., but we can't give a release date yet. There will be differences in Python application deployment and of course Python applications will be affected by the Platform Security limitations.

I'm not sure what you mean by the SVG support question. Could you elaborate?

more specific question:

do we get the same SVG features with this older S60 as with S60 3rd Ed which seems to use newer Symbian ?

i.e do we loose some good SVG features by using Python ?

our goal is to use both SVG and Python with S60

thanks in advance

2nd Ed. FP3 supports SVG, but I don't know right now if the support is the same as in 3rd Ed.
