hello,
Navicore software is supposed to be compatible with at least 16 Nokia mobile phones, but if you are looking for a bluetooth GPS receiver, you can notice that they all use SPP profile to communicate with phones. what about Nokia phones ? most of them do not support SPP profile. My 7610 is on the list, but does not support SPP profile (unless a new firmware is available ??? I don't believe, but I would be ready to pay for that one, not for new firmware with only bug corrections). and what about all other peripheral like joysticks or mini keyboards ? also SPP profile (or HID). Nokia should take that into account .... |

Navicore (and many other navigation apps) works on the 7610 (and other S60 phones base on the same S60 release; 6670, 6260, 3230). In other words, the 7610 has all the support that's needed to talk to a Bluetooth GPS unit.

OK for that confirmation, I'm going to try to contact Nokia customer service to get the latest firmware. I wish I will succeed in such operation.
I'm not sure that the firmware can be self upgraded, without sending the phone away, I hope so. thanks. |

I just have received my 7610 with the latest firmware, version 6.0522.0.
Unfortunately, I was expecting for the SPP profile to exist on that new version, but none: I only can find DIAL UP, HANDS FREE, FILE TRANSFER, and OBJECT PUSH. Very poor regarding to SonyEricsson for instance. I'm sorry, it's in French, but one can find SPP profile in that description. what does that mean ? I think that I have spent 32€ for nothing .... Thank you Nokia .... I'm working for a company who is referencing several bluetooth phones and brands for an embedded application, and until now, Nokia didn't give any satisfaction. |

Are you saying that your 7610 doesn't work with a Bluetooth GPS unit? (I've used mine with an EMTAC Bluetooth GPS device.)
And if Navicore says they support the 7610, too, you should be all right. They sure list the 7610 as being compatible with their software: http://www.navicore.fi/Consumer/Supp...06/en_GB/2006/ |

no, I have not used it with a GPS unit, but the only thing I need is a SPP profile support, and since I cannot find the truth about existance of SPP support on the last firmware, I try to collect all the informations I can find on several subjects and in several the web forums or reviews : most GPS units use SPP (which is well adapted for NMEA kind of protocole, Nokia french web site says that the 7610 supports SPP, Nokia says that the 7610 works with several GPS units since several firmware updates. I'm surprised to notice that SPP is not there ....
having problems with the nokia 6021 SPP profile (the only one which does not work with our ALPS UGPZ1 module), I cannot continue expecting from Nokia, unless Nokia gives me a solution. SPP profile is software, I don't understand why it is not implemented in all bluetooth phones .... It's the basic protocol for communications, and when a phone has an open OS like Symbian, such a protocol should be provided to developers.... |
|
The 7610 supports SPP enough for NMEA over Bluetooth with Bluetooth GPS modules.
|
|
Then why the SPP profile is not found when scanning for the 7610 available services from a PC with a bluetooth adapter ?
|
|
Probably because an app on the phone (like Navicore) can use SPP to connect to a serial Bluetooth device (like a GPS unit), but SPP can't be used to connect to the phone.
