Hi,
My application should be upgraded whenever the new version is available in the server.I have a new version jar file in the server.How can i download and automatically install the new one without deleting the exisiting one.........is it possible ......or is there any alternative solution for that....
If any one had come across this pls share it.

You could look into PushRegistry (either timed alarms or receiving an SMS to a specific port) to lauch you app and then use platformRequest to download the update

from platformRequest javadocs:
"If the URL specified refers to a MIDlet suite (either an Application Descriptor or a JAR file), the application handling the request MUST interpret it as a request to install the named package. In this case, the platform's normal MIDlet suite installation process SHOULD be used, and the user MUST be allowed to control the process (including cancelling the download and/or installation). If the MIDlet suite being installed is an update of the currently running MIDlet suite, the platform MUST first stop the currently running MIDlet suite before performing the update. On some platforms, the currently running MIDlet suite MAY need to be stopped before any installations can occur."

This won't be completely invisible for the user, and it might be impossible to leave the previous version intact (unless you install a midlet with a new name every time)
