Hi.. Does Nokia 6265/6265i have GPS built-in ?
And necessary API's to use this ? Thank you.. |
|
As far as I know, those models do not have a built-in GPS receiver.
What APIs they have otherwise you can find out through: http://forum.nokia.com/devices/6265 http://forum.nokia.com/devices/6265i |

hi Ribani,
none of Nokia devices afaik has built-in GPS module yet, some have Location API support (JSR-179), some can use GPS modules via bluetooth without having JSR-179 api support, maybe you can use GPS module with BT api, sample article (via SE): http://developer.sonyericsson.com/si..._bluetooth.jsp regards, Peter

6175i has built-in GPS
http://press.nokia.com/PR/200604/1043554_5.html I do not think that it is yet on the market though. Hartti |

Not integrated, but there was/is also a GPS "shell" accessory/enhancement for the 5140/5140i.

I recently purchased the 6265i and I love it. The gps icon has been showing on the main screen since I got it and I came upon this forum when googling gps+6265i. I'm assuming its a feature that will become usable in the future or maybe a software upgrade will become available(?).

Are you, perhaps, confusing GPS (Global Positioning System) with GPRS (General Packet Radio Service)?
GPRS is a packet data connection mechanism, that has nothing to do with GPS, which is a satellite based positioning mechanism. Network availability of GPRS data service is indicated with the little 'G' on the standby display. P.S. Another Nokia model with GPS support has recently been announced: the N95. |

In 6265 user manual say: GPS Frequency: 1575.42MHz
so the phone have an internal "Real" GPS. The 6585 phone have an internal GPS too, the coodenates are sent with an emergency call, maybe 6265 have the same type. |

At Nokia web site say something about 6585 GPS on specifications tab... http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/6585/...feat:1,00.html
More about E911 service at: http://www.fcc.gov/911/enhanced/

More some data: The CDMA AT Commands Interface Specification have the +WPDSS command. The sintax is:
AT+WPDSS=”P” Note: "P" Ask for position only, "PH" position and elevation and so on.... The responce is: +WPDSS:<latitude>,<longitude>,<timestamp>,<position uncertainty angle>, <axis uncertainty>,<perpendicular axis uncertainty>,<fix>,<mask>,<elevation>, <elevation uncertainty>,<heading>,<horizontal velocity>,<vertical velocity> But I have tested on a Brazilian Nokia 6265 and it doesn't work |
