Hello,
I am trying to interface a cell phone to a GPS unit using Bluetooth. Lets say I pick a phone and write a program in Java using the Bluetooth API (JSR-82) and test it on one Nokia Phone. My question is will this work on all cell phones (not only Nokia) which support Java Bluetooth API and Bluetooth connectivity?? Saleem |

It might, or it might not depending on the phone. No guarantees. Only real-world testing on real devices will tell, for sure, I'm afraid.
In the case of Nokia, if you develop for, say S60 3rd Edition and test on one S60 3rd Edition based devices, it is quite likely that the app will work on other S60 3rd Edition based devices, too. It isn't guaranteed, though, as there may be device specific implementation differences. Same if you start with, e.g., an S40 2nd Edition device. Etc. It'll be even more uncertain when you go from one manufacturer's "platform" (like S40) to other manufacturer's devices. TANSTAAFL (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch). ![]() |
