Hi there, wonder if anyone on here can offer some advice :

I have a Nokia 6230i which I use in my BMW with an integrated BMW handsfree system that connects to the phone via bluetooth. All this works seamlessly with no problems. Today I purchased a TomTom SatNav system for the car which, to make use of the live traffic updates, needs to connect to my phone via bluetooth to retrieve the latest information.

The problem is that the phone does not seem to support two concurrent connections - I can have the handsfree connected or the TomTom connected but not both at the same time !

This is a bit of a bummer as it is the main reason I bought the TomTom.

Is there any way around this problem - firmware update ? some fiddle with the bluetooth settings (maybe to release the handsfree when the TomTom needs the connection every 30 minutes or so) ?

Any ideas would be much appreciated

Thanks

Arron.

Hi

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I'm in exactly the same boat with my TomTom and my BMW handsfree.

If it's not possible then i suppose it will have to be a pay-as-you go phone for the traffic updates or something. Would rather just the one mind!!

Cheers
Cameron

Hi Cameron,

I was never able to resolve this problem, trouble is that the BMW list of compatible phones is quite limited and I could not ascertain completely if any of those listed (which were mostly older phones) did indeed support multiple connections.

You could get a pay as you go phone I guess but Tomtom now sell an RDS reciever lead to plug into the unit - I have this and it seems to work reasonably well. Most of the navigation systems seem to use this method now, Tomtom was the only one that used a dial up service and it would appear that they are moving away from this now. The lead tucks quite neatly into the headlining of my 5 series so it is almost invisible.

Hope this helps

Arron.
