Hello, my company purchased a n93 based on the fact that nokia list in its documentation that it will record movies using h.264 as well as the ability to playback movies via the realplayer using h.264.

I hope we are doing something wrong but when examining n93 created movies you see that they are NOT h264 but h.263 a much worse codec. As well we copied a few mp4 avc reference movies to the phone only to find that realplayer can only playback the audio portion (AAC) and can NOT playback the AVC (advanced Video Codec) part.

Has anyone else experenced this? Did you solve it? Nokia can't be falsifying their specs? can they?

I did not see anywhere says N93 recorded videos are based on H264, the high resolution video is MPEG-4 and low resolution video is for mms in H263. The realone player might be able to play H264, but I donot think the phone itself can capture H264.

I did more tests and it seems the key to making a mp4 avc that the n93 can actually playback is that you have to restrict the h264 profile to "baseline" and not the default QT setting to use "main".

It is vague at best on whether it can record using h.264. As we know mpeg-4 can support different codec's such as 263, I Find it a bit misleading to say the following: Video capture: MPEG-4 VGA (640 x 480) at 30 fps (16.7 million/24-bit color)
Video playback: MPEG-4 VGA (640x480) at 30 fps and H.263/3GPP, H.264/AVC, RealVideo at CIF (352 x 288) at 15fps

If they felt the need to be specific on the playback mpeg-4 decode, why not be specific on the encode? Now to keep digging to see if it is possible to record using h264.
