I am trying to run the CommConnection demo code from Nokia site (taken from the article "MIDP_Using_Cable_Connection_In_Nokia_Devices_v1_0.zip")

But it crashes with an OutOfMemoryError when reaching the line:
comm = (CommConnection)Connector.open("comm:com0");

Any idea why this is happening ?

Hi Avi,

Sorry for the long delay, but finally I was able to test this a little and I found out that using "USB1" connection works on S60 devices, for some reason "COM0" crashes the midlet, although it is listed in the "microedition.commports" return string. I need to still find out why this happens - I just want to let you first know how to create a work around.

I would also advice adding flush() after writing anything to the output stream.

I know this thread is old, BUT I spent days wondering why my midlet was crashing, I tried everything including a new DKU-2 cable, I almost got the the point there I thought about switchin from nokia to another manufacturer (shame on me....;).

So a big thank you the Hartti for sharing this information with us.

Does anyone know if this kind of thing is particular to the N80? or does it affect all the N series. My application needs to run on all S60 phones in particular the N series phones especially.

I also tried on a N73 phone and had the same problem.... And as hartti said I had to use the "USB1" port...

So I would dare to say that it affects all the N Series...

Same here (also N73), and I'm glad I found this post so quickly, having only spend a few hours to figure out why the MIDlet from the demo code was crashing.

Now off to the real challenge...
