I am running Darwin on Windows and testing with a Nokia E70.
I can stream the sample files (sample_300kbit.mp4) fine via Real Player on my pc. When I try to stream sample_300kbit.mp4 on the phone I get the following message: "Unable to connect to server. Not enough bandwidth. Check in network settings." In other cases, like w/ 'sample_100kbit.mp4', I'm getting, 'Unable to player either sound or video. Trying to play partially.' and then it loads for a long time and then goes black w/ no playing of either video or sound. I've spent a good deal of today testing different scenarios and finding slightly related info on these boards but I'm still stuck. I've tried my local WiFi connection and I still get the same message. I figure these samples should play w/o much configuration needed but maybe not? I have streamed from other sites on the phone in the past. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, ajr |

Update - I've successfully streamed the clips on my PC while connected to the 'net through my phone. That eliminates the carrier (Cingular). I've also tried manipulating the network bandwidth of Real Player but since I'm still having trouble while connecting through WiFi I wasn't surprised when those changes didn't fix the problem.
Does anyone have suggestions on what I could do? My next steps are to investigate upgrades the player and to test w/ .rm clips. |

Dear Self,
Ok, I've gotten a little further. Turns out those bandwidth messages were accurate after all. I dropped the rate to 34Kbps and the video played w/o problem.I was confused by the fact that I was connecting via my home WiFi and I was still seeing the bandwidth error. Could someone point me to the bandwidth specs on what the Real Player needs and how I can identify the max bandwidth that is actually being received by my phone? Thanks, ajr |

Hi ajr
On some phones (e.g. N80) I think you can set the maximum bandwidth usable on a connection basis. And RealPlayer will be using one of these connections, so it can affect realplayer... I found the following instruction on an ebay page, for example: Some Nokia Handsets will require the maximum bandwidth of Real Player to be increased. To do this select 'Applications'...'Network'. Select 'Options' again and then 'Advanced Settings'. Finally, select 'GPRS Bandwidth' and manually change the settings to '37'."
