Hello all,

I want to read frequencies using the microphone of my Nokia E60 (S60 3rd).

I read that the Mobile Sensor API (JSR 256) provides interfaces for such functionality. I don't know if this API is supported by my phone.

Then (in this forum) I read about Sun's Multimedia API (MMAPI).
In Nokia's "MIDP: Mobile Media API Developer's Guide" I found this statement:

Sound and video recording can be done by using RecordControl. On the S60 platform, sound and video
recording is supported from 2nd Edition onwards. [...] You can check the support by using the following system properties:
# supports.audio.capture - for audio recording

However, I am wondering if "recording audio" is the functionality I am looking for... How could I parse the captured audio stream in order to extract the (average) frequency? If I knew this, then I could capture short sequences frequently and continuously parse them.

Does anyone have experiences in reading signals from the mobile's microphone?

with MMAPI (JSR-135) we have access to stream (bytes) created from Microphone line not to device itself. So any work can be done on created (captured) content only,
we can specify encodings/frequrency prior to creating player/recordcontrol:
media_encodings
according to Nokia notes:

Rate, channels, bits, and endian can be set with the corresponding parameters
