Hi!
I've tried to get the received signal strength using the sysinfo module.

import sysinfo
sysinfo.signal_strength()

The number retrieved was all the time around 100 dBm.
According to the table at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DBm#Unit_conversions
it means that the signal strength was around 100000W !!!!!!
Is it possible?
Bug or something else?????
Gal

Hi,
you should add - (minus) sign in front of the received value. (this is not usually documented)
So signal strenght would be in -100 dBm 1 e(-13) W, so quite weak signal.

That depends of course the cell size, how much power it needs for sending/receiving. I got full network bars and signal strength is -87.
In GSM/GPRS networks I have tested some years ago that connection will be disconnect if signal level is around -105dbm. I'm not sure about 3G networks.

Remember that is received signal strength, not power that transmitter sends. After that there is also some amplification, error correction etc.

I think that you can find lots of information searching from books or internet about telecommunication networks.
