Hi,

I am having problems with 6280. When I am running a MIDlet and when I receive an incoming SMS message, the alert tone is different from the tone set in the active profile. All I can hear is a BEEP and it vibrates as well but the default is the Nokia tone. Is this the normal behavior of the phone? Any way to override this?

hi,

does it behave the same way when using any other application? S40 seriers is single-task so that could be platform behavior (while doing some task Notification message/Alert sound is played instead of Message sound),
just guessing,

I found out that the software version that this was observed is:

Nokia 6280
V 03.81
09-05-06
RM-78

When the user receives an SMS, all I hear is a beep (and vibration when it is
set to "On" in the active profile) when the "Other Tones" option in the active
profile is set to "On". When "Other Tones" is set to "Off", no sound is heard to
indicate that SMS is received.

I assume that this is software capability since this was not observed in the
6280 with the newer software version.
