If even FExplorer doesn't work, then you may have an operator branded device, where changing the operator logo has been disabled.

But my phone is not branded. sim and phone were bought seperately, i can use any sim on it. Is it possible that the network can send some overriding signals so that we cant change our logo, even if the phone is not branded??

Did you buy the phone from eBay or otherwise privately, or from a store/retailer?

The fact that you got the SIM separately and it works only means that the device does not have a SIM lock (or that you happen to be using a SIM card from the same operator who locked the device in the first place).

The network isn't sending (cannot send) anything to prevent changing of operator logos on the device. If it is restricted, it is restricted by the firmware in ROM and has been there since the device was manufactured.

No the phone and the operator has nothing to do with each other. I bought the phone from a retailer and it does not have sim lock.
Though i have got a bit of relief as you say that network cant send anything to prevent changing logo...
Then what must be wrong. Damn... Have tried everything...
