When I'm testing my app on Nokia N80, The phone switches itself off? Does anyone have a solution for this? Is this a firmware issue?

Please mention which application(Java/Symbian.....) you are testing and at which point of time does the device crash. Also mention your phone software version.

The app (which is media player) is written in java. It plays the first clip and when it's time to play the second clip, then it switches off. This doesn't happen all the time but occur ever so frequent. The firmware is V3.0618.0.2.

Hi FLO,

The short answer to your question is that it IS a firmware issue. The phone should never switch itself off (does it actually power off or just re-boot?) what-ever you do with the Java media APIs.

However, it is most likely that this is happening because you are doing something nasty with your application and something (probably the DSP) can't cope with the data you have sent it.

If you want to solve this then you will need to find out what line in your application, or what data, is causing the switch-off to occur. As it doesn't happen all the time it could be related to timing, or possibly some uninitialized data (so then it depends on the contents what happens and that can be different on each run).

If you can work out which lines of your code the error happens in and post them here then maybe one of the Java experts can suggest a different way for you to do the same thing.

Alternatively, are there particular clips which cause the crash? Sometimes there are problems with the codecs which can cause resets on particular clips if they contain something unusual.
